Bullish Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, has opened his mouth again. This time, he tells us that the Wii's total sales will surpass those of the Xbox 360 in the US by June.
He pointed to
Super Smash Bros. Brawl as one of the games that will drive Wii sales past those of its Microsoft rival.
By SPOnG's reckoning (using the NPD figures released for
console lifetimes as of December 31st 2007 combined with
January sales figures) Nintendo had sold 7,674,000 Wiis as of the end of January, while Microsoft had sold 9,380,000. Given the Wii's consistently strong sales in the US, it looks likely that it will overtake the 360 - whether it will do it by June, however, remains to be seen.
Smash Bros became the
fastest Wii game to hit one million sales in Japan after it launched on January 31st.
