Okay, so we went back to the FCC filing mentioned in this earlier story, because we're nosey.

Along with photographs of the 40Gb PS3, which we are apparently not seeing in Europe (but which you can see here) we also saw its internal organs and some test photos. One of these shows 'Worst Case Position' for your PS3 (pictured right).

We're mildly confused as to why this is the worst case. The vents are clear and, in fact, if you use any of the other possible positions you're either not going to be able to get your Blu-ray disc and Sixaxis' chargers in (to the USB slots), or you are going to have the machine venting hot air straight into the table.

Then we realised that an FCC test was going to be for emissions... radio frequency emissions! So we're a little more relaxed.

Anyway, on this page you'll find internal shots, test shots and straightforward product shots of the whitest PlayStation ever.

Shame there are no plans for it to come to Europe... at the moment.

Not funny. Mine plays loads of games. I'm sick of little pricks having a swipe at PS3. So easy to jump on the bandwagon, but really those who have one and make the most out of it won't regret having one. It's the best money I've ever spent on gaming. My only problem with it is that it's so great it's rarely been switched off. But it's so quiet and useful that it doesn't matter. Now I'm watching "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on it, but only because I've loaned out Ratchet & Uncharted to a friend. But come Friday I'll be playing Burnout on it, in-between sessions on The Orange Box. It's easy to say "there are no games" but it's so far from the truth. I've got loads of great games for mine already. And I didn't just magic them from my arse, they were bought in shops. They're all great too because I am a fussy gamer... no "The Darkness" or "Jericho" for me, thanks; I only want A-grade titles.

PS3 rocks. But, the white version is horrible. If I wanted a s**tty, cheap-looking console in a horrible colour, I'd have gone for a 360.

I now sit back and wait for SuperSaiyan to pipe up with some bullshit. Fortunately, I never really bother reading it these days.

wow why so angry bentley, it was a cheap shot and i pointed out it was a joke and yes i also too have a PS3 with some great games, like ratchet and drakes fortune, but lets be honest here it is lacking in games seriously!, if you feel the 360 looks cheap in white, buy an elite!

ps

your fanboyism is showing.

yeah, hes a git like that...

I mean, if there weren't a kernel of truthiness in there somewhere it wouldn't sting so bad, now would it?

And if it didn't hurt his widdle feelings so much, he wouldn't feel the need to lash out, or if he did he wouldn't go letting his "methinks the lady doth protest too much.." show...

For the record, I did not clamber on board any bandwagon, they built it around me... Even so, I can't be responsible for every reptile who slithers aboard. And one can't exactly blame people for wanting to ride on the only conveyance that seems like its actually going somewhere besides downhill. Funny how the best news to come out of the PS3 camp has nothing to do with gaming.

Looks slightly less like a grill in white, still fugly though.

It looks cheap in dark grey too. Seriously they are an ugly bunch these next gen consoles. The PS3 works well with my shiny black projector - but it's hardly gorgeous. I'm really disappointed as how cheap all the Xboxes look.

well a few warrenty voiding mods can change all that, or if you like the design but not the colo(u)r maybe a expensive trip to colo(u)rware is due!

At least the 360 looks like it had some design thought behind it, the PS3 looks like someone started off with the basic shape with the curve in it, then just kept sticking different length blocks to it, until it was a complete & utter f**king mess.
And when people attack the PS3 for having no games, they generally mean no games i cant get on another console. the exclusives so far have been pretty f**king poor, this is gonna be a very important year for the PS3, it has a lot to prove......AS A GAMES CONSOLE!.....

hollywooda, your absolutely right. The PS3 really is an ugly machine. It doesn't work well next to anything and looks like it was put together wrong, . . . and ya know, I a can overlook that 100% IF it had some decent games. From a pure gamers point of view the Wii60 solution is the best option. Even though I have all three consoles, If I had to pick two, . . . well, let's just say my 360 and my Wii are safe.

Meh, I care more about how the controller feels than how the console looks...but, I can't fault the 360's design, the shape is far more practical than the PS3. Its boxy and oblong, but with no sharp edges, vaguely pleasing proportions, like a rather large book...I've seen them survive short falls easily, the "cheap" plasitc shell acting as a crumple zone for the solidly constructed metal box beneath. The PS3, well...Not exactly oblong, its a prima donna in the living room, demands pride of placement...it does have sharp edges...resembles a grill...also, and I don't think I've said this before, damage to DVD's in 360's nonwithstanding, I don't trust the slide-in style dvd drive, not really. Also, there are options, readily availible as well as user mods*, to change the appearance of your 360, running the gamut from simple, warranty-friendly face plates all the way through shell replacement to full-case replacement. I am aware of no such ready-made options for the PS 3. I guess you could put vinyl over the lid, but it wouldn't seem safe to me, to have vinyl on the lid of a grill...

*For instance, I used a crayon to fill in the indented words "Memory Card A" and "B" on my standard white face plate, it adds a bit of color, as well as giving me an easy way to identify my box amongst a crowd. I did the same thing with my controller, as I LAN every once in a while, and a simple method of identification was useful, as well as adding a nice bit of color and making the words actually readable under most conditions. I got the idea from the plasic polyhedral dice I used to use for pen and paper RPGs.
