Sony Refuses Comment On UK PS3 'Big Bang'
Sony's PlayStation 'Big Bang' announcement - apparently due on October 12th - is being either confirmed or downright denied or 'unconfirmed' depending on who you read.

The latest information concerning a potential PS3 price-cut / new 40Gb PS3 is that there's going to be both a new (40Gb) version AND there's going to be a price-cut to the current PlayStation 3. All of this is apparently due globally - at least SPOnG has seen reports regarding Europe, Australia and now the United Kingdom.

According to Pocket-Lint: "In attempt to offer an even more compelling alternative to the newly launched Xbox Elite, Sony has also said it will be launching a 40GB "Core" version."

So, it's official "Sony also said..."

According to Eurogamer: "...a spokesperson for Sony told us it has not announced anything and has nothing of the sort planned."

So, "nothing of the sort".

We've spoken with Sony in the UK this afternoon and were told, "SCEUK is maintaining it's position of 'no comment'".

So, "no comment".

We have also spoken to sources in UK retail who refused to confirm or deny that they have received any news officially from Sony regarding new PS3 inventory.

So, with Christmas firmly in our crosshairs, there are now rumours worldwide about new PS3s and about the new Xbox 360 Arcade... all we need now is for a cut-priced, cut-down Nintendo Wii and we've got the set - although we're not entirely certain how you could cut the price or the specs of the Wii.

So lets see, a console that has no decent games that can even compete with the 360, the 40gb to compete with the Elite which has a 120gb hard drive, headset, wireless pad that rumbles and HDMI cable?? Oh please.

The PS3 is just another PSX the huge white PS2.5 that never made it here as it flopped.

Okay, I do not get why people are reacting so negatively to a rumored price-reduction - the worst thing that could happen is that the competition is increased - consumers win when products gets cheaper and the competition increases, as it keeps everybody on their toes - and that gets us the best value - whatever the platform - as someone wrote elsewhere: "Enjoy the games, not the consoles".

I think that this will be positive for Sony. I am sure they are inspired by the sucess with the PSP which will now undoubtly attract more quality games. A 40GB PS3 for 299USD or even 350USD would be enough to attract mass market attention; which in turn would attract developers. Obviously a price cut would only attract consumers for a short time without an assortment of quality media - so Sony's best bet is to use this opportunity to satisfy developers at the same time. Many developers have called for a price cut and even though Sony will take a hit, its best for them in the long run. Up until now Sony has been playing it safe to reduce risk, but as we all know: the bigger the risk the greater the potential gain. I wish them the best and look forward to seeing where they go from here.

Man, looks like SuperSaiyan4 is having a big bang of his own. Good luck to you, chap.

Considering the PS3's software future is looking rather rosy indeed (Folklore and SEGA's Valkyrie and Ryu Ga Gotoku: Kenzan are seriously making me consider purchasing one for starters) a price cut would do a world of good (particularly to poor hobo-esque me). Make it happen, instead of having this song and dance about bundle packs that nobody really cares about.

So was this going to be the 40gb ps3 before it was leaked everywhere on the net or are they still going ahead with some sort of announcement??
