PS3 Goes On Tour – First Concept Picture Inside
It seems that the PS3 has mistaken itself for a rock band and is going off on tour in October, with the
‘PlayStation 3 UK Tour’ kicking off at London's O2 Arena next week and then touring the shopping malls, train stations and universities of Britain.

The show-and-tell tour is primarlily to demo the non-gaming attributes of the console/ interactive entertainment hub/ supercomputer/ expensive toy.

The tour will be showcasing the media functions on the PS3 on numerous 1080p HD screens, hosting short bursts of entertainment in the form of 60 second, five minute and 15 minute workshops that will be tailored to the consumers preference and provide hands on experience and hosting prize draws to win PS3s.

You can see the first concept art of the sampling unit right here, watch out for your local teenagers trying to steal from one of these in a shopping centre near you very soon.

“The main aim of the PS3 UK Tour is to showcase those capabilities which stretch beyond the realms of gaming to include HD pictures, music, photography, PlayStation Network and PSP compatibility,” SCE UK trade marketing manager Rosemary Buahin told SPOnG earlier today.

“PlayStation 3 is a super-computer that fits naturally in the living room environment. With this in mind, we have created demonstration units which will allow consumers to freely experience the PS3 throughout the tour.”

The tour kicks off on October 1st, and runs through until the end of December.

“PlayStation 3 is a super-computer that fits naturally in the living room environment."

Despite the fact that it's massive, ugly, loud, and overall quite intimidating. I have a cat whom I'm certain would be terrified of The Black Obelisk, and that's before it levitates, explodes small toys through telekinesis, and possesses nearby babies' souls.

You've never played on a PS3 have you? One thing it isn't is loud. I doubt you even have a cat.

I never said a thing about how it plays. Don't call me a liar because you like your PS3; I didn't say it's a bad game console.

I walked in the door the other day with a three-quarter guitar in my hand, and the cat almost had a heart attack. He's also terrified of tin foil and sometimes plastic wrap.

Kudos to Sony for developing this next gen piece of art. Twice the power of the 360 rashBox. More options, more expandability, more triple A titles. The PS3 is the swiss army knife of gaming. Expandable hard drive (supported in manual), Blue Tooth, Blu-Ray, 4 USB, SD / Flash Memory stick built in. Free online PSN multi-player and lets face it if the other contender offered multi-player as part of silver no one would be a gold user (two tiered gamers on same console, WTF?). Say what you 360 owners, Sony will continue to innovate and dominate this gen as well.

But you did say it was loud. It isn't. Case closed.

I wasn't aware that "it isn't" qualifies as a "case," but thanks for educating me of that much.
And congrats on your victory. Honestly, I've no clue what I'll do now that the PS3 isn't loud. ;)

I can see the way this is going and I clicked the reply button with a certain sense of trepidation, but here goes.

You stated that the PS3 was "massive, ugly, loud, and overall quite intimidating". Three of those claims are subjective, the fourth (loud) isn't. The PS3 had been commented on far and wide for it's lack of noise.

Rutabaga called you by saying "You've never played on a PS3 have you? One thing it isn't is loud."

You then turned the discussion to gameplay with "I never said a thing about how it plays. Don't call me a liar because you like your PS3." This totally ignored Rutabaga's point and invented a new point of your own to defend.

Finally, I pointed out that you had said it was loud, reminded you that it isn't and concluded that you hadn't actually played a PS3 because if you had, you'd have known it wasn't loud. I admit I summed that lot up in a simple "case closed" statement, but given that I was arguing alongside Rutabaga who asserted that you hadn't played a PS3, I'd have thought you could have made that connection.

As to my "victory" - thanks, but no thanks. I don't get much pleasure from arguing with people on here, but I do feel a need to point out inaccuracies and mis-assumptions.

And as to your cat, I'd have thought you may need to give up videogaming as a hobby if you have such a skittish creature under your roof. Leaving aside the roar of the 360's fans or the exaggerated movements required by most Wii games, even a PS2 game would probably generate enough pops and bangs in the sound effects to reduce it to a quivering heap.

It's not loud. It's very sleek next to my gloss black 1080p screen.

Hey man, I was just joking around. No need to get defensive and try pushing through technicalities everywhere; like I said, I'm not attacking your precious PS3. I was simply making a point, which I think was presented clear enough to begin with.

Maybe you heart you some Sony or something, and that's perfectly fine. But you shouldn't have to take up arms at the mere hint of someone mentioning something not-so-positive about the PS3. I happen to love Nintendo, and especially my Wii sitting happily beside my TV. But if someone said that the thing has loads of crappy games in it's library, I'd say "dude, I know! It's pretty freaking stupid, but at least a few of 'em are awesome enough."

Do you see what I'm saying here?

Which is fair enough, and I'll gladly admit that the PS3 has a quite small library of games and needs more AAA titles.

On the other hand, if someone told you they don't like the Wii because the controllers eat batteries, I think you'd be slightly less forgiving and point out where they are wrong. I'm doing the same with your assertion that the PS3 is loud. It's not.

Oh and BTW the Wii gets excellent mileage out of the controller batteries.
