Nintendo’s Wii edges ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in terms of numbers of units sold worldwide this week, with an estimated 10.57 million Wiis sold since launch in November last year, compared with 10.51 million Xbox 360 units sold since that console’s launch a year earlier in November 2005.
Wii has outsold 360 by a ratio of 2.3:1 since its release, with 3.46 million Wiis already sold in its homeland of Japan compared to a paltry 430,000 Xbox 360s. The 360 continues to dominate the American market, with 6.73 million sold there to date, compared to 4.24 million Wiis.
PS3 currently trails in third place overall, with 4.32 million global sales. Third place! Ha! Geddit?
