Red Bull Branded Games on the Way

Don't add vodka, kids! Or Jagermeister.

Red Bull Branded Games on the Way
Other than purchasing dodgy illegal pick-me-ups in clubs, what did clubbers do before Red Bull and vodka? Go to bed earlier? Not flip out and over-heat after drinking five in a row? It’s a genuine conundrum.

While we argue about that essential issue of the day, it’s just been brought to SPOnG’s attention that the Red Bull 'energy' drink is following hot on the heels of Burger King and having its own videogames developed.

FreeStyleGames today announced a "ground-breaking worldwide partnership" with the energy drinks company “to create interactive content from concept to final product" - we love marketing-speak, 'groundbreaking', eh? Go on, what ground?

The partnership will focus on the new consoles, “offering immersive, entertaining and social experiences,” a FreeStyleGames statement just in, informs us.

Chris Lee, Commercial Director of FreeStyleGames (pictured right) commented, “This partnership goes way beyond the in-game advertising deals seen in videogames to date. It's important to stress that we're working hand in hand to co-develop and design compelling, triple A titles that will be a true reflection of the Red Bull energy drink brand, as well as great, original gaming experiences in their own right.”

Lee continued, “The innovative and adventurous brands of the world now view videogames as an ideal way to reach their audiences and I'm sure we're going to see more deals of this sort over the coming years. We're excited to be at the forefront of a movement that sees development studios taking more control of their destiny and working directly with leading brands to create outstanding digital content."

More details on the games, publishers involved and release dates to follow shortly. We wonder if the game will involve a new drink that SPOnG has just discovered called 'a Jager-bomb' - in which a full shot glass of Jagermeister is dropped into a pint glass containing Red Bull. The immediate effect of this being intense intoxication followed by hyena-like cackling.

I used to be worried when more of my games had EA all over them. Can't say I'm surprised, as this is the next step from sponsors in films.

Burnout 3 had Axe (we know it as Lynx deodarant over here) billboards in it, but after a glance I never noticed them again.
If it helps smaller developers that need the money that's good, but not so much as to compromise the games overall look and feel.
