DJ Hero Turntables Heat Up

More weight thrown behind rumours

MTV News has thrown more weight behind rumours of a upcoming heroic rhythm game from Activision - DJ Hero that we reported recently.

The site claims to have independently confirmed the existence of the game, backing up rumours that emerged on Friday.

The game will reportedly feature a turntable peripheral, enabling players to scratch to the beat of popular mash-ups. Right now it's said to fit onto gamers' laps, although a stand is reportedly in the works to allow players to stand up as they get to it.

Activision is reportedly having a "licensing nightmare" in trying to get tracks for the game. With the formation of Activision Blizzard, however, Activision has direct access to the Universal Music Group, which should help things along.

FreeStyleGames is reportedly working on the project. That fits snugly with news SPOnG brought you last week of Activision buying the company, along with the fact the developer is "developing localized downloadable content for the Guitar Hero franchise, as well as a yet to be announced new, intellectual property in the music genre."

As SPOnG told you back in February, Activision has trademarked the name 'DJ Hero'.

Such a move does, of course, make blinding sense. With stiff competition from Harmonix'/MTV Games'/EA's Rock Band and the upcoming Rock Revolution from Konami, Activision needs to break new ground.
