PlayStation 3 Dated and Processor Manufacturer Announced. Sony Denies All
The BBC has reported that Sony has awarded the contract to produce the microprocessor heart of the PlayStation 3. The report states that the machine will go into production at the beginning on 2004.

Auntie Beeb also claimed to have a statement issued by Sony Computer Entertainment, IBM and Toshiba, the manufacturer of the PlayStation 2’s Emotion Engine. "The result will be consumer devices that are more powerful than IBM's Deep Blue super-computer, operate at low power and access the broadband internet at ultra-high speeds," the statement reads.

It has also been alleged that Sony is planning on licensing 0.1 micron processor technology from IBM that would see new processors 1/10,000 the thickness of a human hair. Scary eh?

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has completely slammed the report. “If this is what’s going on we haven’t been told about it,” said a Sony spokesperson. “If we don’t know about it, it’s not going on. There are many reasons why a company like SCE falls victim to incorrect and malicious reporting. We cannot fathom why this story would surface from such a reputable source as the BBC.”

To paraphrase, the news giveth and the news taketh away. If anything else emerges from this mess, we will let you know.
