The PlayStation 3 is still going to be a force to be reckoned with in a decade's time, according to Sony America's senior director of corporate communications, Dave Karraker.
Speaking in a recent interview, Karraker said, “...ten years down the road, when the PS3 is still relevant, people will look back and say that we made the right decision to include so much forward-looking technology in the box.”
“Ten years” compares to an average console lifespan of around six or seven years. The PS2's insistence on continuing to
kick next-gen arse, however, suggests he might well be right.
Karraker also made a vague, PR-filtered statement about the possible inclusion of rumble in the Sixaxis, saying, “We are currently in discussions with Immersion on how we can incorporate their technologies into our products. No word on when that will happen.” It's nice to hear, but it is not quite confirmation of rumble and nor is it any more committal than
Sony's statement in early March.
Karraker also threw us a tidbit on the PS Store, stating, “We were delayed on getting more third-party game content on the PS Store early on, but that should be ramping up very quickly in the next few months.”
