The UK government has banned the PlayStation 3 from prisons due to concerns that its WiFi capabilities could enable convicted criminals to access the internet.
According the beleaguered Home Secretary, John Reid, speaking in Parliament on March 28th, the PS3 will be sent to solitary due to its ability to "send and receive radio signals".
Back in June 2006 we reported that PS2s had been banned from prison due to prisoners
watching porn!Fears over porn-mad criminals laying into each other with Sixaxis controllers following heated
MotorStorm competitions don't seem to worry Reid as much as the 'radio' aspect. Strangely, however, the fact that hoodlums can log-on to
various nefarious sites using their Wiis and a copy of Opera doesn't seem to have had the same impact in Parliament.
SPOnG's gone over Hansard (the UK parliamentary record) and is unable to come up with any Wii-related banning orders thus far. So, if you're currently reading SPOnG in between getting your
Wii Sports bowling averages up - while banged up - please let us know in the Forum.
While the PS3 must, therefore leave a clean life on shelves (and in 165,000 homes) throughout the country, the innocent Wii looks like its condemned to do hard time with large, bald tattooed men and women called "Driller Dave" or "Maureen the Frying Pan Murderer".
SPOnG demands that the Home Office re-addresses this injustice!
