Midway in Japan has announced that it will be laying off 60 of its arcade-dedicated staff.
The news comes as a blow to the arcade industry, which has just picked itself up and dusted itself off at the AOU Amusement Expo in Tokyo.
Midway’s cutbacks follow on from almost all the big players in the arcade scene making some kind of retreat from the global amusement market.
Although the cuts constitute almost 10% of Midway’s total staff, the home entertainment side of the business will remain unaffected. Midway’s console division is still looking for additional staff.
