Chinese-language Economic Daily News is reporting that AOpen owner, Taiwan-based Wistron, could gradually discontinue the production of Xbox 360s for Microsoft in 2008, due to declining profits on production of the consoles.
Another reason mooted is that Microsoft has added Wistron competitor, Celistica, as a supplier. This would meant that, along with Flextronics - which has been an Xbox manufacturer since, well, the Xbox back in 2002, there would be three competing claims to Xbox mass-production funds.
Before anybody jumps the gun here - this does not immediately indicate price cuts galore for the 360.
Interestingly Wistron is part of the same group as PlayCoo Corporation, "professional game developer, combining its 3D engine, 3D development kit, and online interactive platform technology with capabilities in both project integration and game design. PlayCoo's business scope includes online game development and production, console game ODM/OEM and co-development services and online interactive platform licensing."
So, now you know.
