XBLA Wednesday: ‘New Geometry Wars’ Launches Tomorrow
Whilst gamers have been more than spoiled this year with the huge amount of retro arcade goodness on offer on Xbox Live Arcade, it has to be said that there has been a real dearth of true original titles to date, the awesome Geometry Wars excluded.

That might all be about to chance with this week’s new XBLA release, Wanako Studios' Assault Heroes going live tomorrow at 8am GMT. That's 'Wanako' for all the filthy minded Brits out there. With TWO A's!

Assault Heroes is being touted by many who have already played it as the next big thing on Xbox Live Arcade.

The game, published by Sierra Online, is a top-down action title in which the player controls a heavily-armored 4x4 or speed boat as they shoot their way through waves of enemy troops and face off against end-of-level bosses. It promises to be a classic shoot-em-up, with plenty of power-ups, upgradeable weapons, including chain guns, flamethrowers, cannons, grenades, nukes (!) and more.

Taking the lead from Geometry Wars, the controls are left analog stick to move your vehicle, and right analog to fire.

There will be a free demo version for you to trial tomorrow with the full game, featuring both single-player mission mode and online co-op play, setting you back 800 Microsoft points (£6.80).
SPOnG will be checking out the game first thing tomorrow and we urge you to do the same.

Really looking forward to this one.

On the PC you can download Eliminator 3D from www.thegameprojects.com. It's a game that was inspired by Geometry Wars and has an online high score chart. Playable using the keyboard or a dual analog stick gamepad.
