SPOnG
told you yesterday about the reshuffle of Sony Computer Entertainment’s management team, with Kaz Hirai taking over the position of SCE president Ken Kutaragi, who in turn has been promoted to SCE chairman.
Unsurprisingly a number of analysts have seen the re-shuffle as a snub, or vote of no confidence in Ken ‘father of PlayStation’ Kuturagi, following the ongoing problems in bringing the PlayStation 3 to market.
Nomura Securities' Yuta Sakurai, told
The Financial Times that, "The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software…I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4."
He added, "Hirai’s new global portfolio puts a predominantly software-focused manager in charge of the company."
Which begs the question, could Sony go the way of Sega?
SCEA publicity chief Dave Karraker responded to these rather outlandish claims, saying, "Following the launch of the PlayStation 3 just a few weeks ago, and witnessing the huge consumer demand for the product, I think it would be rather short-sighted for anyone to predict there might not be a next generation of PlayStation product.”
