Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s General Manager, has revealed in an interview that North America will receive one million Wiis for the scheduled November 19 launch.
Speaking to Mackenzie Financial, Bertram told them: "We're looking at a million for North America at launch. If we get what we're supposed to get, this will be our most plentiful launch in the 15 years I've been at Nintendo. All signs are actually extremely positive."
Sony meanwhile has stated that it should deliver around 400,000 PlayStation 3’s to North America for the November 17 launch.
Speaking about the PS3 launching two days before the Wii, Bertram noted that: "Sony is trying to do what they're trying to do - they're trying to rule the entertainment universe with this very expensive machine. And we're just trying to get more people playing video games and the people who are playing video games playing our system. We knew they were [releasing] on the 17th, but that really wasn't a big concern for us.".
The Wii will cost USD $249.99 and launches in Europe on December 8 at a very competitive price point of £179/ €249.
