The Xbox 360 Ultimate Cheeseburger pad had to go. Now fetching a decent price on eBay (as would, we assume a two-headed baby in a jar) the Duke was an error, rendering early Xbox adoptions playable only to the freakishly large.
This situation was remedied in time for Japanese launch, by the release of the Controller S, a surprisingly good control pad many at the time claimed rivalled or even bettered the new standard in gaming, Sony's DualShock, a design the PlayStation company could not abandon in spite its best efforts.
Indeed, even when Sony attempted to throw away the DualShock it soon returned. Like a boomerang! But not.
Today, Microsoft's Xbox 360 pad is widely hailed as the best controller for a games console ever. Although lacking the now hardwired familiarity of the PlayStation controller, its almost perfect ergonomically-sensitive construction does make it a joy to use.
Which is why recent comments from Microsoft's product unit manager for hardware Robert S. Walker come as something of a surprise. Speaking to ShackNews yesterday, Walker went on record to say: "...Microsoft is looking at ways to modify the right analog stick on the controller to make it more conducive to the precise movements used in shooters and various other genres. This controller would not replace the original controller, and would merely be an option available to players looking for a more advanced control scheme."
Nothing official has been recorded from Microsoft and the company has seemed to distance itself from Walker's comments in recent hours. Either way, the more controller options we get, the better.
