Gizmondo Exec Pleads Not Guilty
Here’s the latest news on our old friend Stefan Eriksson, convicted liar and mobster, and former executive officer of Gizmondo, who pleaded ‘not guilty’ earlier this week to the rather frightening list of charges against him – including grand theft, embezzlement and drunken driving.

You are most probably aware of the background to the case, but if not, have a look at our last news report on what one Malibu Sheriff referred to as ‘The Gizmondo Caper’.

Eriksson, who spent five years in a Swedish prison in the 1990s for assault, extortion and other crimes, spoke only once at his Superior Court appearance, merely saying ''yes'' when confirming to Judge Craig E. Veals that he was changing attorneys. Eriksson was wearing shackles and a rather fetching orange jumpsuit.

His new attorney, Alex Rose, entered Eriksson’s plea to the two misdemeanors and seven felony charges and indicated outside court that he would seek the release of Eriksson, who is being held on $3 million bail and a federal immigration hold.

"We intend to prove in trial he's not guilty," said Rose. "He denies any car was stolen."

Prosecutors allege Eriksson illegally imported two luxury Ferrari Enzo sports cars and a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren to the United States from Great Britain, one of the Enzos having been totalled back on February 21, when he hit a utility pole in Malibu while travelling at 162 mph. Sideways.

Eriksson initially identified the driver as a mysterious German man named Dietrich, who authorities could not find, but later admitted to a sheriff's investigator that he was the other driver.

Eriksson had also claimed he was a deputy commissioner with the ''anti-terrorism division'' of a small transit agency in the suburban San Gabriel Valley – a claim which has also since proved to be a pack of hilarious lies.

Eriksson’s attorney said the case could involve witnesses from Sweden as well as issues of foreign law. If Rose manages to get him off the hook, then he is surely a legal ninja with magical powers.
