Carl Freer, the boss of the
newly-revived Gizmondo, has told
MCV that there will be “No more company Ferraris!” at the business that famously saw its executive officer sent to jail after crashing a Ferrari in an
illegal street race.
Whether that can be taken to mean, 'No Stefan Eriksson', the Gizmondo gangster in question, remains to be seen. If he's involved, however, he's being kept firmly in the background.
On a more serious note, Freer has shed some more light on the company's plans for its upcoming re-launch of the Gizmondo handheld gaming platform. For starters, the company has taken a few tips from Apple. "It will be an open platform", said Freer. "We can see what the iPhone has done with the App Store. Removing the barriers to enter for smaller developers is the key. We are also hoping to introduce a Linux-based Android version. Think Apple App Store but for the Gizmondo - you will be able to download and upload anything you want."
That, presumably, would be what all the mysterious gubbins on the 'Gizmondo Live' website was about
back in January.
Freer reckons that it can stand up to any other handheld on the market. "We are currently upgrading the board with some new features. I believe that this will make the Gizmondo stand out technically against its rivals", he said.
It was revealed that the new device will be rolled out with a limited run in time for Christmas through online retailers only.
