PS3 SingStar was another title which Phil Harrison was keen to show off at the PS3 conference yesterday, and with good reason. The next gen SingStar lets wannabe Shayne Wards or Rachel Stevenses (?) personalise their playlists by downloading songs from the current 3000+ in the database so they can warble along to whatever they like.
It’s essentially the most amazing Karaoke machine yet developed by humankind. Forget Penicillin and walking on the moon and all those other great steps forward humankind made over the last few hundred years: SingStar for PS3 marks the next step in the development of our species.
Well, okay, it doesn’t, of course. But it means that when we get drunk and try to persuade our girlfriends to play videogames, it is going to be hundreds of times better in the future, which has to be good news.
The game will come bundled with new ‘silver’ microphones (ooohh! silver!) and be fully customisable, so you will be able to change skins, download songs via an in-game SingStar store, and so on. Plus, it will be EyeToy compatible, enabling you (should you wish to record your shame) to save pictures and videos to your hard drive, and even upload your best performances to the online ‘My Singstar’ community (hmmm, echoes of MySpace?) as well as being able to keep your personal ‘highlights’ on your PSP.
