Christmas has come early for mobile game studio Distinctive Developments, the company's 3D Pool title has received a nomination for the Best Mobile Game in the second annual BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts Games Awards. This is second year in a row that Distinctive has received a BAFTA nomination.
The game was also the winner of the best mobile game award at the annual TIGA dinner, held on December 13th.
3D Pool is one of the world's first fully 3D java games for mobile phones. Unlike the majority of pool games which have appeared on cellphones, players can view the table from any angle, to ensure every shot is as accurate as possible. 3D Pool is available for all of the most popular mobile handsets available on the market today and is available from many of the leading mobile network operators.
The BAFTA Games Awards recognises the world's best video games across a very wide range of categories from specific genres and platforms through to the most original title and highest production values. This year the BAFTA Mobile games category is focused specifically on games which are downloaded or delivered 'over the air' to handsets, differentiating them from cartridge-based handheld games.
Nigel Little, the managing director of Distinctive Developments, said, "The recognition of games for mobile phones as a distinct category indicates just how far mobile gaming has come in a very short space of time establishes the mobile phone as a viable and thriving new gaming platform. We are delighted to have been nominated for a BAFTA Mobile Games award. 3D Pool shows that even technology which is often viewed as limited and tightly constrained can be used, with care, to create advanced and compelling games. We are also very honoured to have won the Best Mobile Games Award at the annual TIGA dinner and would like to thank everyone who has bought, played and enjoyed one of Distinctive's games in the past twelve months and we're looking forward to an even more exciting 2005."
