Los Angeles, CA, 11 May 2000 - - Blue Byte Software will today reveal game scenes from the fourth episode of the successful Settlers series at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, 11 - 13 May 2000.

The fourth episode of the strategy-filled civilization simulation will be revealed with a completely new graphics engine that offers the player a significantly more detailed game world. The characters, buildings and landscapes can be scrutinized in unprecedented detail with the new seamless zoom function. Zooming out again provides the optimal strategic overview of the Settlers' world.

One of the most noticeable changes in The Settlers IV is the new race, the "Dark People". Their appearance heralds the presence of an ominous new power to be reckoned with in the previously halcyon Settlers world. The Dark People led by their master, Morbus, are out to convert the lush landscapes of the Settlers into barren wasteland. The other Settler races will have to find ways to thwart this insidious plan and reclaim the land poisoned by the Dark People.

"The Dark People will be exclusively controlled by the computer since it has an infrastructure which deviates completely from that of the other Settler races," says Hans-Juergen Braendle, the project manager for The Settlers IV. "Unlike previous opponents in the Settlers series, it will not be possible to defeat the Dark People purely by military means. The recultivation of the barren lands is an important component in the strategy against the dark menace and emphasizes our efforts to reposition the settling aspect of the game in the foreground. Without having to reduce any features of the military units, we have managed to find our way back to our roots. We have reinforced the harmonization between settling and strategy by adding new features, such as the coupling of the fighting strength of the soldiers with the size and attractiveness of the colony or the new competitive settling mode."

In The Settlers IV fans of the series can look forward to a number of innovations that have been carefully integrated into the proven game principle. In best Settlers tradition the player will have the task of building up a flourishing colony with the Romans, the Vikings or the Mayas. The various races will again differ considerably and again there will be extensive multiplayer functionality. For Internet gaming Blue Byte is expanding the borders in the areas of player profiles, clans, world ranking lists and the Settlers community. More information about this will be available shortly under http://www.settlers4.com. The Settlers IV is scheduled for release on PC CD-ROM this winter and will be second game to be launched on the Blue Byte Game Channel (www.bluebyte.net).
