Brandish a Powerful Lightsaber and Master the Force
Against an Onslaught of Insidious Enemies.
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- May 10, 2000 -- Continuing in the acclaimed tradition of its award-winning 3D action titles, LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC announces Star Wars: Episode I Obi-Wan. Expected for release in fall 2000, Obi-Wan immerses players into the role of the young and agile hero as he undertakes the arduous journey from Padawan learner to Jedi Knight.
With only his lightsaber and the Force to aid him, Obi-Wan navigates his way through more than a dozen challenging single player levels as well as numerous multiplay areas. Throughout the course of the game, the legendary character confronts hoards of menacing enemies, including battle droids, Tusken Raiders, destroyer droids, and Sith mercenaries. Obi-Wan culminates in a climactic battle with the Sith Lord Darth Maul.
"Obi-Wan continues in the legacy of the much praised Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, allowing players to control the destiny of one of the galaxy’s greatest heroes," says Joel Dreskin, product marketing manager for LucasArts. "The game represents the next evolution in LucasArts’ lauded 3D engine technology and gives players an opportunity to wield a Jedi Knight’s powers as never before."
Obi-Wan’s journey is the central focus of the game’s storyline, with the events depicted in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace serving as inspiration for many of the missions. Taking on the persona of the famous Jedi, players must be resourceful and master Obi-Wan’s combat prowess and Force powers to protect the innocent and vanquish threats to peace in the galaxy. Undertaking even the earliest missions in the game, players will truly experience the Force abilities, lightsaber skills, agility, and other capabilities of a classically trained Jedi. Ultimately, players will appreciate the trials that a Padawan must endure on the long path to becoming a Jedi Knight.
Obi-Wan captures all the complexity of lightsaber battle through an innovative and intuitive glyph combat system, which relies on intuitive gesture-based movements to allow players to control the Force in ways they’ve never imagined. As players traverse the highly detailed interactive environments, Obi-Wan moves with incredible Jedi agility using realistically-animated flips, rolls and jumps.
The challenges of Obi-Wan will continue on-line with exciting multiplay options, such as Death Match, Protect-the-Queen (Amidala) and others. In multiplayer sessions players can select from Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, a bounty hunter, a destroyer droid, a Naboo soldier or Sith Lord, and clash over the Internet or Local Area Networks.
