LOS ANGELES – (May 11th, 2000) -- The invasion continues! Ubi Soft and Scholastic Entertainment Inc. have joined forces to bring the literary phenomenon Animorphs to Game Boy Color for the first time ever. Based on Scholastic’s best-selling book series by K.A Applegate, with more than 32 million copies in print, this exciting role-playing adventure allows players to dive into the fantastic Animorphs universe featuring their favourite characters as well as a multitude of different animals.
.
Animorphs chronicles the thrilling adventures of five teenagers on a heroic mission to save the world from an evil alien invasion. Empowered by their ability to transform into any animal they touch, these five young heroes must use their brains and newly acquired abilities to outsmart the evil aliens known as Yeerks. Under the leadership of their commander, Visser 3, the Yeerks will stop at nothing in their mission to control mankind.

In the game the Yeerks have captured four microprocessors, powerful devices crucial to their plans for human domination. Assuming the role of each of the Animorphs (Cassie, Jake, Marco, Rachel and Ax) in turn, players must retrieve these microprocessors while battling with the Yeerks and their enslaved alien minions, the Taxxons and the Hork Bajirs. In a race against time, players use their morphing power to complete 5 dangerous missions within 12 diverse graphic environments. But be aware that if you spend more than 2 hours as a given animal, the ability to change back to a human being is lost forever.

Featuring character-driven gameplay, each mission begins in Explore mode where players search for vital information and acquire morphs from more than 45 animals. Battle mode pits gamers against animal and alien adversaries as they select from four attack options specific to their morph animal in a card-game style battle. Using the night vision of a bat or digging tunnels as a mole, the platform mode allows players to evoke their specific morph animal’s natural abilities in a side scrolling adventure of stealth and strategy.

Animorphs: Game Boy Color allows players to use the Ubi Key, an infrared link between Ubi Soft Game Boy Color titles. The aim of Ubi Key is to create a bond among Ubi Soft Game Boy Color Games. Players will be able to send and receive the key to unlock bonus levels and special powers. The Ubi Key is an exclusive bonus that players will find hidden in certain places. Each Ubi Soft Game Boy Color game has a different Ubi Key and each of these keys will enable players to use new powers in a secret level. To extend the adventure, all players have to do is find other Ubi Key gamers.

“The unique storyline of Animorphs is an exciting basis for a game,” commented Yves Guillemot, President of Ubi Soft Entertainment. “Fans of the series will be impressed by this action-packed interpretation of such a wide spread phenomenon.”

“We are committed to bringing fans of our properties exciting and hands-on ways to interact with some of their favourite Animorphs characters,” said Peter Van Raalte, Vice President, Licensing, Scholastic Entertainment Inc. “This new Game Boy Color title from Ubi Soft has truly captured the unique qualities that have made Animorphs so popular over the past few years.”
