London – (February 15th, 2000) Dreamcast, the most powerful video games console ever created, continues to achieve ground breaking firsts for the games console industry. Dreamcast announced today that it has signed up more than 200,000 on-line registrations to use its free internet service.

Today’s announcement, which amounts to 30% of Dreamcast owners are entering Dreamarena, confirms Dreamcast’s position as one of the fastest growing pan European internet access providers in Europe.

Users are taking advantage of Dreamcast’s interactive capability, using Dreamarena’s chat rooms, email service, web browsing and the on-line gaming function on titles such as Sonic and Buggy Heat, with real time on-line gaming due later this year. The portal site will continue to be developed with further news services, attractions and promotions being introduced shortly.

Dreamcast has now sold nearly 700,000 units across Europe since its launch less than four months ago also confirming Dreamcast as the fastest selling games console ever.

JF Cecillon, Chief Executive Officer, SEGA Europe, said:

“That a third of our customers are using Dreamcast’s on-line capability is evidence that our strategy of developing an on-line community via Dreamarena, meets the high expectations of our customers, as well as providing stiff competition to traditional European ISPs.

“As the pioneers of interactive games consoles, we will continue to develop Dreamcast as a multi-purpose platform as well as providing our growing on-line community in Dreamarena with the ultimate portal for gamers.”
