This week Kalisto Entertainment have announced Sportners - the first system to successfully link computer online gaming with real sport events. Now online gamers can compete against sport professionals, live in real-time, from the comfort of their own home.
Online pundits are citing Sportners as the most exciting online gaming initiative of the year, and the creators of the concept, enterprising Bordeaux-based software developer Kalisto Entertainment, the latter best known for their recently announced Nightmare Creatures 2 PlayStation and Dreamcast publishing deal with Universal Studios and Konami, are in the midst of developing commercial partnerships with Internet broadcasters and media companies who are interested in including the Sportners into their entertainment schedules.
"Sportners is the first chapter in Kalisto's introduction into the world of online gaming, says Kalisto's President, Nicolas Gaume. "We believe we can help generate and unite global communities which share common interests and emotions within the interactive medium."
Sportners is the first online game that allows unlimited players to actively participate in real-time racing against world famous sporting events like car or motor races. The initiative is protected by strong international patents, and was originally conceived in December 1999 by Kalisto in association with its inventors Jacques Levasseur and Gérard Benkel.
Sportners utilises Kalisto's advanced 3D racing engine to recreate live sports events. The technology is based on the proprietary capture of real-time racing information. It enables Internet players to immerse themselves in the race, and compete against actual, real life participants from their personal computers or televisions.
Players have the choice in making a number of decisions in the set up and configuration of their car, before racing against other game champions and ultra-realistic computer generated versions of the actual competitors. All races are recreated in real-time with detailed background graphics and state-of-the-art game play.
Sportners will be entirely developed within Kalisto's Bordeaux studios, and is a key part of their strategic online commiment. The project will benefit from Kalisto's very own technological tools, skills and interactive mastery
