Nintendo has purchased a Japanese company called MobiClip. It actually did so last September but the subsidiary has now confirmed things on its own website. Why is this news?The company provides high-quality video compression for a variety of content on a variety of devices including the DS, iOS and Windows Phone devices.
According to Mobiclip:
"Mobiclip is now a subsidiary of Nintendo. Mobiclip is a Research and Development center specialized in the field of highly optimized software technologies. We are commited to provide the gaming industry with the latest innovations in middleware."

Nintendo (as far back as the GameBoy Advance)

The company is also recruiting for a, "Software engineer on Nintendo's new generation consoles".
