Mirror's Edge & Dead Space Didn't Meet Expectations
The president of EA Games, Frank Gibeau, has discussed the lessons he and the company learned from the performance (or lack thereof) of the titles Mirror's Edge and Dead Space.

Although it's widely accepted that Mirror's Edge failed to ignite sales, Gibeau's statement regarding Dead Space is a little more thought provoking. He points out that, "It made money for us, but didn’t hit expectations. We felt like we had an IP that struck a chord, and one that hit quality, but again it missed multiplayer modes."

Speaking with games news website Develop, Gibeau explained that the first-person parkour style title Mirror's Edge missed the company's expected commercial and critical targets set by EA. He went on to explain that what the company learned from the sales of the game was that “you have to execute, you have to spend more time on a game to ensure it’s polished, and you need to have the depth and persistence of an online game.”

Gibeau acknowledged that whilst both Mirror's Edge and Dead Space did experience some form of success the titles had not no quite met the expectations the company had set for the titles either (Dead Space did manage to make EA a profit from the sales achieved, however).

He also reiterated that EA will not leave its newer IPs in the cold, reiterating that “A new idea obviously has a lot of risk attached to it, but if you get it all right it can be huge.”

We'll get to see how much of that mentality comes through when Dead Space 2 is released near the end of January. Would you like to see EA produce a new Mirror's Edge title or some new IP whilst they're at it? Any thoughts, feel free to post them down below.
