Shenmue has earned itself a rabid cult fanbase. Those days of wandering around Yokosuka, asking nasally old ladies whether they had seen any men in black suits and searching for sailors is burned into many gamer's minds as the epitome of interactive entertainment. And for the longest time, SEGA has seemed intent on leaving Ryo Hazuki up that bloody mountain. But according to a Famitsu 360 interview with the company, SEGA might be curious about continuing the adventure. The news comes from hearsay via

Allegedly published in
Famitsu 360's annual developer interview edition, it apparently has someone from SEGA saying that
Shenmue 3 is a title that the company still thinks about doing, but lacklustre sales remain a factor when it comes to green-lighting any potential project. The company is understandably hesitant to jump back into the franchise, given that previous games in the series sold pretty poorly.
The SEGA dev finishes by saying that if there is an opportunity to continue Ryo's adventure in the future, they would love to do it. It has led to speculation that the publisher might be hoping for financial support from either Microsoft or Sony in exchange for console exclusivity.
We're on the hunt for confirmation on this, with either scans or direct quotes – be sure to get in touch if you've seen something. If SEGA Europe provides comment on the matter, we'll let you know – we all know how much
Shenmue 3 means to you. And Svend SPOnG, who somehow works it into almost every conversation he has.
