With Activision and Red Octane apparently at loggerheads in court over the use of Kurt Cobain's virtual meat puppet being used in Guitar Hero, MTV has taken the chance to use Nirvana songs in Rock Band.Songs ready for download in
Nirvana Pack 02 are:
Smells Like Teen Spirit,
Come As You Are from the band’s "legendary" (not legendary, there is actual proof) MTV Unplugged performance, and
Lithium, from the not quite a legendary 1992 Reading Festival gig.
Shockingly there is still no version of
Rape Me available in any music game. Maybe it is mythical.
We're also told that the band called Night Ranger "debuts in the Rock Band universe" next week with a three pack of songs that includes
(You Can Still) Rock in America and
Don’t Tell Me You Love Me, both of which were re-recorded for Rock Band, and
You’re Gonna Hear It From Me, from 2008’s Hole in the Sun.
All this makes for 1,000 tunes in Rock Band's 'universe'. This makes Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix Music Systems, "extremely proud".
