According to Infinity Ward's Vince Zampella, quoted in the
Official PlayStation Magazine, "Activision also did not want
Modern Warfare. They thought working on a modern game was risky and [thought], 'Oh my god you can't do that, it's crazy!' They were doing market research to show us we were wrong the whole time".
Luckily for Activision Blizzard, Infinity Ward and every gamer who has ever lifted a gun in Modern Warfare, plucky Infinity Ward fought Activision on the beaches, in the fields and on the rice paddies. Just goes to show what a small but big-hearted developer can achieve.
CoD: MW has sold in excess of 14 million copies for Activision/Blizzard. We guess the story also tells us a great deal about market research... such as not listening when someone tells you to change the
name of your game.
