Fudzilla is running a story by Nick Farrell about how Blu-ray discs sent out by Netflix are unplayable...
"People using the video renting outfit Netflix are starting to complain that Blu-Ray disks are not as rugged as many people think. Punters have been reporting brand new Blu-Ray releases from Netflix have been arriving with a 1-3mm crack through the hardcoat part along the outer edge that makes the disc unplayable."
The story then proceeds not to state: Which people. How many people. Where these people reported these issues. When these people started to complain... it continues to speak about Netflix putting a $1.00 premium on Blu-ray over DVD (and download of course).
"...some are suggesting it might be that the outfit wants to pass the cost of frequent disk replacement over to the consumers who rent Blu-ray."
Once again, no direct quotes, no idea how many 'some' might be or where they might originate from. Of course, no direct quote from Netflix either.
Finally, and as a great pay-off, "So far there have been no authoritative tests done for Blu-Ray durability, but if it turns out that there is a real problem here, then it could eventually slow down adoption."
So, if it turns out that an unspecified percentage of discs, from an unspecified duplication plant, sent via an unspecified method to an unspecified number people who then complained in an unspecified manner to an unspecified source... then there could be problems.
