Hanuman: Boy Warrior is an Indian PS2 game that has apparently offended at least one Hindu leader in the USA today.
According a
press release, "Hindus upset over Sony’s “
Hanuman: Boy Warrior videogame and further frustrated by the callous handling by Sony officials, might give a boycott call of all Sony products world over.
"Hindus have been demanding the withdrawal of recently launched Sony PlayStation2 video game
Hanuman: Boy Warrior, saying it trivializes the highly revered deity of Hinduism, and apology from Sony for creating it.
"Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that despite communication between Sony officials and Hindu leaders, the issue had not been resolved yet. Sony officials said that they would look into it and be back with the Hindu leaders, but they were yet to hear back from Sony."
Unlike the delay to
LittleBigPlanet for the
removal of song containing words from Muslim holy book, the Qu'ran, however, Sony in India isn't moving on this one.
That said, Rajan Zed is also prepared to wait until May 21st before invoking any boycott, which is really quite polite.
Strangely no one has yet asked for the classic TV series,
Mahabharat to be removed. Video games, as ever, are a lower form of entertainment.
