The Resident Evil 5 'Versus Mode' patch is alive and kicking on Xbox Live - and it won't take you long to download. It's only a 1.86Mb download apparently but will cost you 400 MS points or about £4.
The lot takes in, according to Capcom, "up to four players to match wits in online battles across two very different game types. Slayer’s Rule is a point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis. In Survivor’s Rule, players hunt the most dangerous game, each other! Players can begin the hunt as Chris, Sheva or other secret characters, and choose from either one-on-one or two-versus-two team matches for either of the two gameplay styles."
Gamers writing on Xbox's Major Nelson blog vented some bile at the price and the content. Comments such as, "Pay for MP!!!!! WTF!! Now Capcom get a grip. I do not pay for the MP" and "This is a waste of money. The multiplayer should have been free" were not uncommon.
Nor, however were statements such as, "Oh, and has anyone noticed the download size: 2Mb. Looks like this is included on the disk. It's probably just a dinky little patch to fix the bugs that held it back from being a release day chargeable extra!!"
Defences came in the form of "The point is, the on-disc content for RE5 was easily worth the 60 you paid for it. Awesome game, awesome co-op, decent length, tons of replayability, and mercenaries is awesome for a few hours. They didn't have to release this Versus stuff at all, its just a fun addon, and I don't think they expect everyone to download it. It's like an experiment."
