Despite branching out into the casual games market with
My Pet Shop, Square Enix doesn't see that market as becoming more important than the core RPG market it traditionally services.
Speaking in an interview with
casualgaming.biz, European president and CEO John Yamamoto said, "We believe that the core RPG titles will generate more revenue for Square Enix, although this does not mean that we aren’t interested in other genres and we will be actively pursuing providing content away from the core RPG titles."
He also reaffirmed Square's interest in the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and WiiWare as delivery systems for casual games, saying, "There is a large audience for casual titles that is growing all the time, we see other viable routes to this audience. Not just via conventional hardware but via Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and the WiiWare channel. We are very interested in providing casual titles through these channels."
