Once again the Reuters news agency can look the world in the face without having to wipe the egg from its own. Having spent two years with a 'bureau' in the glorified 3D chat-room that is Second Life, the agency has decided to withdraw.
Its announcement is brief and to the point:
"The Reuters Second Life bureau is now closed", it says before continuing in a dose of self-justification:
"Reuters has closed its Second Life bureau after more than two years of in-depth coverage on the virtual world’s business and economy. Our technology team will continue to cover Second Life on Reuters.com."
Let's hope other independent 'news' outlets decide that being embedded within the organisations they are supposed to be reporting on see the light.
