Developed by Haemimont, Black Bean bring us the fantasy RTS title Rising Kingdoms. The game fuses classic strategy gameplay with roleplay elements, allowing you to explore the land close up with a group of adventurers.
Obviously, Rising Kingdoms is set in a mythical land, in this case the world of Esquiada. At one time, all the races of the land lived in harmony, with an understanding of each other's different customs brought about by the regular instruction and intervention of their benevolent gods. But at some point, the gods stopped communicating with the mortals, and Esquiada was plunged into a dark chaotic period as each race tried to wrest power and land from the other. Many years have passed since that time, and now the once united and peaceful land is split into many diverse kingdoms.
There are eight different races in Esquiada, and in Rising Kingdoms, the three most powerful of these are playable. The first are humans, skilled in building but treacherous and greedy. Then there are the Foresters, a magical half-tree, half-beast race who were created by enormous magical energies released during the great war. Last up are the Darklings, the most ancient of races who wish to wipe out the younger upstarts and control Esquiada totally. Although these are the only races you can choose to play with, as you colonise other settlements youll be able to recruit soldiers from the five minor races, which comprise Elves, Trolls, Shades, Nomads and Dragons.
In one player mode, the huge story spans generations, and is broken down into 30 missions. Take your game online and play up to seven others over internet or LAN. The community is supported by chat, auto-matching and a Hall of Fame and ranking system. As well as manifold different units to experiment with, you can also choose champions unique to your race. This is where the RPG element comes in and the outcome of battles could depend on whether your character has access to the requisite skills and items. Your Kingdoms expansion will also depend on how much gold and gems you can hoard, and is affected greatly by the amount of glory you accumulate in battle. So, choose your side, and fight for the future of Esquiada.
