Summary

It’s not often that Rugby fans get a chance to enjoy video games based on their favourite sport. So those who enjoyed last year’s Pro Rugby Manager 2004 will be pleased to know that not only is an update coming out in time for the Six Nations tournament, but that the new version improves so much on its predecessor that British studio Digital Jesters saw fit to name it PRM 2 rather than the less presumptuous PRM 2005.

Both gameplay and graphics have been vastly improved, and players are invited to try and fathom the strategies and tactics that can take national and club teams to the top of their game. There are over 120 official club teams in-game and 50 unofficial national sides, and Clive Woodward wannabes can adjust tactics, line-up, training and formation before each match. The match then starts and the impressive motion captured 3D graphics engine shows it all, play by play, tackle by tackle. Players must use their time wisely and train their players to improve their stamina, vision and skills.

Every Zurich Premiership team features, along with their grounds, modelled faithfully on their real-life counterparts, as do the grounds of the top 16 French teams. 40 stadiums are featured in total, and the weather changes just like real life, bringing wind, rain and snow at either day or night. Managers can pick and choose from a vast array of moves, offensive and defensive, and watch their team play it out in photo-realistic graphics, using the brand new 'view from above' if they wish. Naturally two players can play it out over a LAN connection too. The closest many will ever get to managing a successful rugby team, Pro Rugby Manager 2 deserves the attention of anyone who’s serious about their rugger.
