From the deep dark depths of George Lucas's smoking jacket pocket comes the chance to pilot every late 70's schoolboy's dream. No, not a Marina or an Allegro, but the Millennium Falcon, surely the most recognisable craft to come from the Star Wars universe. 14 combat-filled missions await the gamer brave enough to rise to the challenge of hectic battles, asteroid fields and the Imperial TIE Fighters and other craft well known to Star Wars fans: it's all happening in the dark skies of Yavin, Endor and beyond.
If you think you know everything there is to know about the Star Wars experience, Flight of the Falcon may make you think again. The game is propelled along by interweaving the movie storylines and fresh plot twists for the element of surprise. The gameplay is strictly arcade-like, with weapon, shield and life power-ups to be collected throughout each level.
The most impressive thing about this little bundle of fun however, is its visual prowess. The action comes thick and fast, with no hint of any gremlins in the works, and although the sheer size of the Millennium Falcon is compromised by the hardware, the graphical effects as youre flying around the deep black of space and blowing away its hostile inhabitants are fantastic. Get up close and youre almost there I can almost make out Carrie Fishers headphones.
Its another one for the Star Wars obsessives, yet the force deserves to reach further than blokes in their late 20s-30s. Go on, kid, take her for a spin.
