Summary

From acclaimed game maker Brian Reynolds, designer of PC game classic Civilization II, comes Rise of Nations. The game is a combination of the large-scale gameplay of traditional turn-based strategy games and the pacy action of RTS games. Rise of Nations allows players to create new cities, improve the infrastructure of their city, and expand national borders. Players have the choice of winning by using military might, utilising everything from slingshots and cannons to stealth bombers, or cornering the market on key commodities by wheeling and dealing with a wide variety of nations.

Unlike other historical real-time-strategy games, Rise of Nations lets gamers quickly play through eight historical ages of time, from the Ancient Age to the Information age, covering 6,000 years of history. Gamers can play a quick battle on any map as one of 18 nations, or play Conquer the World, the unique blending of turn-based and real-time strategy gameplay. 6,000 years may seem like a lot of time to lose yourself in, but condensed into either type of aforementioned game, the time just flies by. We would wager that even the most casual gamer could derive at least a modicum of pleasure from Rise of Nations. It's intense, but not too much so as to scare away beginners.
