Dig Dug Deeper is the latest classic arcade game to be revised and brought to PC. That means that you can re-experience the joys and addictions of yesteryear on your very own monitor. Dig Dug comes from a time when graphics were functional and gameplay was essential to a title’s playability.

Dig Dug is an underground exploration game where players burrow their way through the environments. The aim of the game is simply to clear the level and to attain a high score. To accomplish this, players dig through mazes disposing of enemies. Once an enemy is located, shoot them with your harpoon and pump them full of air until they explode. Easy, until you realise that you can be attacked from all directions at once and once you are pumping an enemy, you are vulnerable to attack. This is why you have to develop your own tactics.

The fresh slant to Dig Dug comes from the occasional use of 3D stages to literally add more depth to the game. In some cases, both perspectives are used and cleverly interchange. This opens up new possibilities, especially when the new power-ups and bonuses come into play. In addition to the classic gang of baddies, all-new members join the opposition for even more variety.

To all intents and purposes, Dig Dug Deeper is still the original game and there’s nothing wrong with that. It might have a new look and feel, but Dig Dug is still the same game at heart.
