Summary

Kill la Kill, the batpoop-crazy anime from Trigger, finally has its own video game. It's on solid ground as far as anime adaptations go, with a massively over the top arena brawler developed by APLUS (which previously handled the game of another Trigger anime, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time) under the watchful eye of beat-'em-up studio extraordinaire, Arc System Works.

The game features a new story written by the TV show's Kazuki Nakashima, showing us the world from antagonist Satsuki's perspective. It's all canon, so if you're a fan of the anime you won't want to be missing out.

As an arena brawler the heart of the game is the one-on-one battle, with 10 characters to tackle including a couple of newbies. It's not a huge roster, but that means that each one feels like they have their own fighting style and identity rather than just being clone number three of one of the headline acts. The combat is big, flashy and explosive. With the involvement of Arc System Works you know that there's going to be the opportunity for some advanced combat, but there's a mode for beginners that allows you to cruise through if you just want to experience the story.

Naturally, a tutorial and multiplayer options (including online rankings) are available, but to change things up there's also a horde mode to take one as well as lots of fun little extras like a feature that allows you to stage your own in-game dioramas.

There's a lot more here than APLUS needed to bother with for a tie-in game, and fans are going to find plenty to sink their teeth into.
