Summary
If video games are to be believed, the chances of mankind finding itself in a benign, happy future are remarkably slim. Legendary games maker Keiji Inafune and the creators of the classic Metroid Prime are no different, presenting us with a desertified future world in which no-one is safe.
The game stars Joule Adams, a young woman who has fled a post-collapse Earth to Far Eden, a desert planet, where she will help build a new home for mankind. When she wakes after centuries of cryosleep, however, things have not gone to plan. Humans and their robotic companions, 'corebots', were supposed to build a new world together, but most of the corebots have gone rogue and the planet's surface is plagued by violent sandstorms. Joule sets off into this brutal environment with her corebot companion, Mack, on a mission to uncover the secrets of this world's past.
Recore is a very new-looking game with something of an old soul. At its heart are the three prongs of classic action/adventure games - combat, environment traversal and exploration. One key difference is the introduction of corebots - along with Mack, some of the corebots you meet will become your companions and help you fight your way through this harsh future, in which shifting sandstorms are forever revealing new hidden treasures.
This PC version comes with new content created since the game first launched on the Xbox One. That includes 10 new dungeons, two new overworld areas and three new weapon modes for Joule's energy rifle, making this the definitive version of ReCore.
