Summary
WipEout is a franchise that, arguably, doesn't get enough love. With this Omega Collection PS4 owners get their first spin around the futuristic block with all the content of WipEout 2048 and WipEout HD, including the WipEout HD Fury DLC, all enhanced for the PS4 and PS4 Pro.
WipEout HD
WipEout HD marks the high definition comeback for the futuristic racing game that started life on the original PlayStation. Taking to the starting grid in one of many hovering vehicles, you race through hi-tech cities, tunnels and floating structures whilst grabbing whatever offensive power up you can find to knock your opponents off course.
Races against the CPU are both exhilarating and intense, as your metal hovercraft can reach incredible speeds, zoom over speed-up ramps (which make you go even faster) and yet can slow down to a crawl in a moment of error if you happen to crash into the side panels. Expert gravitational steering is required, along with a dash of cunning, to come in pole position.
The techno soundtrack is a staple of the WipEout franchise, and keeps the adrenaline going whilst you're going toe to toe with classic teams such as Feisar and AG Systems. You can replace the CPU with human opponents, either online or in split screen, and race to your heart's content!
WipEout 2048
WipEout 2048, originally PlayStation Vita launch title, Studio Liverpool has arguably created the best WipEout game in the franchise’s history.
Gameplay is just as you remember it. Classic WipEout. Hold the accelerator to move your futuristic vehicle really fast, bank using the left stick and weave in and out of opponents with the help of offensive and defensive weaponry.
As well as regular Races, Time Trial and Combat stages, the Zones mode makes a welcome return in 2048. For the uninitiated, Zones puts the player on a track with no control over their acceleration - the longer you stay on the track, the faster your ship goes. The aim is to survive (without hitting any of the walls) for as long as possible. Each stage in the campaign comes with a regular Pass requirement and an Elite Pass, which has some additional skill-based conditions for completion.
And if you don’t spend the time in single-player, you will undoubtedly be doing so in the online multiplayer campaign!
