Summary

Frogwares is back with the eighth game in its Sherlock Holmes series. It takes the crime-solving gameplay more often found on the PC and gives it a bigger budget flourish than is usually seen in the adventure game genre. In this case, we also get a fair old splash of action.

Still the core gameplay of collecting clues through exploration and interrogation is most certainly present and accounted for. The five cases offer twists and turns a-plenty, and by the end of each case you'll be agonising over which suspect to wiggle the finger of accusation at. Frogwares is certainly not soft-balling would-be detectives here.

New to the game is a tool that enables you to plot and visualise a sequence of events to try and model how you think a crime has been committed - Holmes fans will no doubt find it reminiscent of the 'mind palace' ideas seen in the BBC's Sherlock.

Things have been given a bit of a shot of adrenaline compared to previous entries in the series. While it will certainly test your gray matter, the game will also have you dashing through Epping Forest or trying not to plunge to your death in a Mayan temple.

In other words, there's plenty here for Holmes fans of all stripes.
