Summary

StarFox, which was sadly absent from the Wii, has returned to the big(er than a handheld) screen with StarFox Zero.

Things are looking bad for Fox McCloud. His father has gone missing, but not before uncovering a nefarious plan to dominate the galaxy put together by the evil primate Andross. To stop this growing evil, Fox does the only thing he can - reassembles StarFox, a crack team of pilots dedicated to saving the day.

As in previous games in the series, StarFox Zero focuses on arcade fighter pilot action played out across the surfaces of planets and the depths of space, with multiple pathways and outrageous foes to take on.

This time out Platinum Games the studio behind Bayonetta (among others) is on board, and the developer has brought a raft of new features with it. The main hook, though, comes from the Wii U Gamepad. While your big screen shows your vehicle, the Gamepad's second screen serves as an aiming reticule. Thanks to its gyroscopic sensors, this can be used to view things independently of the big screen, so for the first time you can more accurately target the things ahead - or even above or below - you.

The Arwing craft that Fox and his crew fly are also able to transform into earthbound robots called Walkers, while the drone-like Gyrowing also offer a different kind of play and the fan-favourite Landmaster makes a return.

Fox fans are in for a treat.
