Summary

Certain games have achieved classic status for reasons other than hype. Sid Meier's Civilization series is one of those. Since it's first appearance in 1995, Civ' has constantly shown how strategy games should be made and played.

Number 'V' doesn't drop the baton – in fact it comes with a brand new game engine featuring fully animated leaders interacting with players, full-screen and – for the first time in their native languages. The Gold Edition comes with the added bonus of the Gods &: Kings expansion pack and all the DLC available prior to the game's release.

As empires clash across the in-game world, the addition of ranged bombardment means that seasoned Civ players will be rethinking strategies.

As you'd expect from a globally and historically successful series such as Civ – a range of community, modding and multiplayer capabilities are also part of the package.

With 18 historical civilizations - from the stone-age to the space age – to choose from as you battle for supremacy, you have also have to choose whether to use to mix your military might against diplomacy in order to build alliances or be taken down.

The Civ hub lets players compete and interact with other Civ-heads around the world. While Hotseat and LAN matches mean that you've really got to test your mettle against real minds.

Of course, it's Civ – and that means that you can also use the in-built modding tools to make the game even more your own – and gain the respect of players all over the world, the real world that is.
