Summary

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is a decidedly... different direction for the Ninja Gaiden series. This certainly isn't your older sibling's Ninja Gaiden. In a nutshell, think: ninjas versus zombies. Got that? Good.

The game certainly comes with a pedigree, albeit a somewhat unexpected one. It's the result of a collaboration between Ninja Gaiden devs Team Ninja and the creator of Capcom's blockbuster zombie series, Dead Rising.

It stars Yaiba, a ninja who has been cleaved in half and then brought back to the mortal coil using cyborg technology. The upshot of this is not only mastery of his katana, but also the cyborg weaponry embedded in his mecha arm. In a nutshell, this makes him the perfect chap for obliterating lots and lots of zombies!

Yaiba will slaughter his undead foes with gleeful abandon. He might change his arm into a classic zombie-fighting chainsaw, or he might opt to rip off an enemies arms and use them as nunchuks! At some points the game is over-the-top beat-'em-up action on a massive scale, while at others a slightly more delicate touch is required. It may seem at first that button-mashing will win the day for you, but there's a more subtle combo system lurking below the game's surface that requires mastery.

Delivered in a comic book style, Ninja Gaiden Z is an outrageous gorefest.
