Summary
An intense Sci-fi influenced adventure, Darkstar is set in the post-apocalyptic future of the year 2499. Captain John O’Neil finally wakes from cryogenic sleep to find his starship, the Westwick, not only lost in the far reaches of space but also damaged.
O’Neil has been asleep for over 312 years and, as a side effect of centuries of hibernation, his memory is gone.
With the Westwick’s computer voice to inform him, he must explore the seemingly haunted starship to discover not only what has happened but also what his real mission is.
Players must negotiate the Westwick, unlocking cinematic flashbacks as they unlock areas of the ship and unfolding the story. They must discover how the ship was damaged and why it is now orbiting a strange and alien planet. As O’Neil the gamer also discovers what has happened to his crew, which includes characters such as his partner Ross Perryman and pilot Paige Palmer, who is still in her cryo-chamber. The gamer must also discover who savagely murdered Navigator Alan Burk.
The answer to what happened to the Earth itself also lurks deep in the game.
Darkstar has more than 13 hours of Full Motion Video sequences, lots of animated scenes and more than two-dozen alternate endings.
The cast actors includes Clive Robertson (Sunset Beach/StarHunter) starring as Captain John O’Neil, as well as the original cast of the American cult television comedy series “Mystery Science Theater 3000”, including Trace Beaulieu, Beth “Beez” McKeever, Joel Hodgson, Mary Jo Pehl, Frank Conniff and J. Elvis Weinstein. The game is also narrated by the late Peter Graves of Mission: Impossible and Airplane fame.
