Boulder Dash-XL builds on the heritage of the classic 1984 puzzler Boulder Dash, bringing its puzzle elements up to date with new HD graphics and also a ‘Retro Mode’.
The game involves the gamers in a race against the clock to collect as many gems as they possibly can. It’s not only the clock that’s against the player though, there are also thousands of enemies to fight; lots of traps to avoid and – of course – the ever-dangerous falling boulders.
There are five different game modes including that retro mode, which replicates the look and feel of the original Boulder Dash. It uses the same level designs and rules as the original but the original graphics and characters have been given a 3D rendering. The ever-evocative music and sound effects have been re-created using 8bit-Samples. All of it is played out in 25 caves.
Those 25 caves add to the total of more than 150 caves in four distinct worlds that must be explored, survived and cleared of those precious gems.
