Summary

Tales of the Abyss for Nintendo 3DS is a rethinking of the classic PlayStation 2 role-playing game and is part of the famous Tales series of Japanese games from Namco Bandai.

The player is involved in the story of the spoiled and protected Luke fon Fabre, the remaining heir to a family of aristocrats who is taken out of his cosseted environment and thrust into the real (or not so real) world. Not only is Luke removed from his comfortable life - he must either save the world or he must destroy it.

The reboot into 3D with the Nintendo handheld enables the player to use Mystic Artes, enter intense combat and explore the expansive World Map in 3D in ways not available on the original version. With graphics designed in rich, anime style by the artist Kosuke Fujishima, the world of Auldrant spreads out in front of the player. This includes fully voiced cutscenes in the same style.

One thing that has been retained from the original is the use of the much lauded Dynamic Real Time Battles using the “Flex Range - Linear Motion Battle System”, providing tight control over the characters’ movements and attacks.

With over 40 hours of basic gameplay available the player will interact with a host of weird and wonderful characters and environments.
